Tapniauchenius gigas-Orange Tree Spider 2″

Sale!

Not sure who thought up the common name Orange Tree Spider; it has puzzled me for decades. Obviously the slings and juvies are orange with a black stripey butt, but when a fully grown 5.5-6″ stunner, they are pink legged with a greenish carapace, and a red-orange (at best) abdomen. By any goofy name, T. gigas is an absolute essential, imperative and completely must-have for anyone who fancies arboreals. They are lightning fast as youngsters, and as nervous as little Timmy in Vatican City, but calm down considerably as adults, and are mildly defensive. “I don’t want to bite you but I will.”  Temps of 74-82 and humidity of 70% with good ventilation is what they need. They’re much hardier than Avicularia species, and yes, you need one!
